Children Helping Children

A fundraiser for the Smile Train, themed “Children Helping Children, will be held on Sunday November 16th, from 3:00-6:00pm, at the Century Oak Community Clubhouse (Misty Creek Lane) in Fairfax. This event looks to the community for help to support the charity, the event, and the children of neighborhoods in Fairfax, Oak Hill, Oakton, Reston, Ashburn, Clifton, and more. All are invited to shop the event and purchase hand made craft items made by children in our communities. All of the money collected from selling the childrens' items, and donations, will go to a donation for The Smile Train.

Last year’s Children's Charity Bazaar was a wonderful event during which children in the community learned to give to others, and enjoyed working together to help other children. Children in our local communities made a variety of crafts, such as stationary, wreaths, tshirts, jewelry, magnets, and food items. Parents, grandparents, neighbors and teachers were invited to shop, a great time with the holiday season closeby. Items sold raised over $1,000, of which 100% of it went directly to children all over the world with a cleft lip or palate. This helped to provide free cleft lip/palate surgeries to 4 children, helping them to smile!

The mission of The Smile Train is to provide free cleft lip and palate surgery for millions of poor children in developing countries. It uses 100% of donations to go to the program, 0% to overhead. Since 2000, The Smile Train has helped almost 250,000 children receive free cleft surgery. More information on The Smile Train can be found at www.smiletrain.org.

This will be a wonderful experience for the community, and the participating children will be able to help another child smile.
