John McCutcheon Concert

By rwlavalley

On November 9th at South Lakes High School Little Theater, South Lakes High School Band Boosters will be present John McCutcheon in fundraising concert. John McCutcheon has emerged as one of our most respected and loved folksingers. As an instrumentalist, he is a master of a dozen different traditional instruments, most notably the rare and beautiful hammer dulcimer. His songwriting has been hailed by critics and singers around the globe. His thirty recordings have garnered every imaginable honor including seven Grammy nominations. He has produced over twenty albums of other artists, from traditional fiddlers to contemporary singer-songwriters to educational and documentary works. His books and instructional materials have introduced budding players to the joys of their own musicality. And his commitment to grassroots political organizations has put him on the front lines of many of the issues important to communities and workers.

The SLHS band needs your support for this concert because they are working to raise funds for their trip to Carnegie Hall in New York. Members of the SLHS Band Wind Ensemble will travel to New Your City this spring to participate in the Third Annual NEW YORK BAND & ORCHESTRA FESTIVAL at CARNEGIE HALL from March 29 until April 2, 2009. Participation in this invitation-only event is the latest in a string of top honors received by the South Lakes Wind Ensemble under the talented direction of Mr. Grayson Fore.

On Sunday, November 9th, 2008, SLHS Band Boosters will provide Reston and surrounding community the opportunity to enjoy John McCutcheon in concert. Funds collected for the concert will be used to help support all the South Lakes High School Band Program bands and ensembles. You can contact any of the South Lakes Band students to get your tickets or you may order your tickets on-line at the South Lakes Band website at http://www.southlakesband.org/folk.html or email: fundraising@southlakesband.org for more information.

Help us reach our goal of raising enough funds for our trip to NYC and perform at Carnegie Hall.
